What does a 2-hour session look like?

At Mindset math, we divide our sessions into 2 blocks: an hour of Math, and an hour of STEM. Mindset tuition is $90 per 2-hour session.

Math

Each class starts off with a puzzle or open ended question designed to test the student’s problem solving skills. Students share their solutions or ideas in order to build their confidence in Math. They can also learn from each other and find out there is more than one way to solve the problem!

The bulk of the class will include instruction by the teacher based on Singapore Math techniques that supplement the BC Curriculum. Singapore Math techniques aim for fluency and mastery of math understanding. There’s no wonder Singapore students are the highest performing in mathematics!

The last bit of this session will include some practice time for the students to hone their new knowledge. The teacher will be supporting the students to continue building their math skills.

Homework at Mindset Math is more about teaching a student the value of focus and practice. We ask that students spend 10-15 minutes each day to complete their assignments. Consistency breeds excellence!

课程的最后部分将安排一些练习时间,让学生有机会巩固他们所学的新知识。老师会在此期间提供支持,帮助学生继续提高他们的数学技能,并解答他们在练习中遇到的问题。

家庭作业将带回家。Mindset数学的作业不仅旨在加深学生对知识的理解,更注重培养他们的专注力和持续练习的习惯。我们建议学生每天花费10到15分钟来完成作业。持续的努力和一致性是取得卓越成绩的关键。

STEM

STEM projects can take place over one single 1-hour block, or multiple blocks over several weeks depending on the project. With longer projects students can thoroughly plan and execute their ideas.

STEM methodology involves teachers:

  • Asking or posing a question (problem).
  • Students Imagine the scenario and Plan their solution.
  • They then spend time Creating their ideas.
  • From there, we Test and look to Improve the project!

Throughout these STEM sessions the teacher will be using the Question Formulation Technique to develop the skill of thinking critically. It gives students focus and allows reflection when the project is finished. What problem are you interested in solving? What do you need to get there? What did you learn? Were you able to accomplish your goals? How can we improve?

STEM sessions can include coding projects, engineering challenges to real-world problems, building and programming robots to perform specific tasks, 3D printing projects and Science Experiments.
